Free2 Marketing Campaign

From Public Libraries July/August 2008 Tales from the Front:

Bay Area libraries in California have launched a marketing campaign to reintroduce communities to theri local libraries. Takin its cue from “Got Milk?” and similar industry image-raising efforts, the Free2 Campaign is designed to raise awareness of the central role libraries play in people’s lives and how libraries are meeting increased demand for a new host of services.

The Free2 Campaign is an 18 month effort involving interaactive and traditional adversting, sponsorpred initatives, special events and promotioanl activities at 165 library locations in San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Alameda and Contra Costa counties.

Implicit in the campaign’s core concept, Free2, is a question for library patrons and supporters: What are you free to do – or be – thanks to your local library? A writing contest, launched simultaneously with the Free2 Campaign, invites audiences to describe, in 25 words or less how they are Free2.
